Easter Regatta 2000 Bala Sailing Club Easter Regatta, sponsored by Mailspeed Marine was combined with the International Moth Inland Nationals and saw a good turnout of 75 boats of a wide variety of classes. There were 5 fleet starts - RS400's, Asymmetrics, International Moths, Fast and Slow Handicaps. On Saturday, two races were sailed in a force 3 to 4 south-westerly, the ideal wind direction for the lake. Steve Venables dominated the RS400 fleet and Chris and Rachel Jenkins, in a RS200, the asymmetrics, winning both races. In the Fast Handicap fleet, Andy Long and Mark McGarry in a Hornet won the first race and Ed Wright, better known as a Laser sailor won the second in a 505. Nigel Oswald and Ian Fosdike won the first two International Moth races, providing exciting sailing for the spectators. The Slow Handicap fleet was dominated by the not-so-slow Laser Radial, helmed by Chris Russell, who won both races, beating the local Topper sailor, Chris Grube into second place. Sunday was a day of mixed weather and fortunes and only one race could be sailed, the wind dying away after lunch to give way to a persistent downpour and thunderstorm. A further two races were sailed on Monday, with the wind varying from a light to moderate south to south-westerly, providing challenging conditions for the competitors and Race Officers alike. Tony Woods and Steve Venables won the 4th and 5th RS400 races, the International Moths sailed only one race, won by Ian Fosdike with Nigel Oswald in second place, and in the asymmetrics, Bruce Lenton, in a Laser 5000 and Chris Jenkins in a RS200 won the 4th and 5th races respectively. Chris Russell did not have it all his own way in the Slow Handicap, winning race 4 but coming second to Dave Grube of Bala in the fifth. In the Fast Handicap, J. Jones in a Hornet was the most consistent sailor of the fleet , gaining two second places , with the first places going to Ed Wright in the 505 and J. Taylor in a Laser.
