| Long Distance Race 2000 The 38th Annual Long Distance Race of about 22 miles was held on Saturday 1st July 2000 with 55 entrants. The wind was light from the North East and the start line was approximately one mile from the 1st mark and was set by race officer Stella Keeley with a Port Tack bias. However few took advantage of this and most started at the Committee boat end on Starboard. The wind being light and variable swung from the North East to South and the fleet moved the 4 miles to the Long Distance turning point in fits and starts. A 505, a RS400 and a BOSS were well in front at the end of the 1st lap. The second lap however was difficult with varying winds until the typical katabatic wind came in from the South West bringing all the back markers to a dramatic close finish, with all boats finishing within 15 mins of each other after five hours racing afloat.
