Massacre Pursuit Race 2000 Bala SC's seventh St Valentines race, sponsored by Dickies of Bangor, was held on Sunday 13th February. A total of 45 boats, including a fleet of 8 Fireballs, participated in a race held in sunny conditions and light NW winds. The race started after a 1hour postponement while the race officer waited for the wind to fill in. The race finally started at 1pm with a startline battle amongst the 3 Solos. By the first leeward mark the Solos had only just yielded the lead to the eventual winners, Carl Jeffs and John Dixon in their GP14. One hour into the race and heading to the leeward mark for the second time the lead position was now firmly held by Carl Jeffs but with R Estaugh and N Thompson in their GP14, along with S Stockwell and G Norris in their Solos, in pursuit. At the same time the, Dickies of Bangor sponsored, 18' skiff joined in the race. To the frustration of the crew the wind began to ease and continued to do so for the rest of the race, simultaneously sealing the fate of the skiff to failure and safeguarding the unassailable lead of the GP's and Solos.
