Long Distance Pursuit 2004
The day after the Long Distance race, eighteen boats had remained to take part in the 3 hour pursuit. The first boats off the line were the Laser 2000s and they established a good lead, aided by the force 4 south westerly wind. However, by the end of the second beat, the Blaze of Dan Partington had gained second place and was closing in on the leading Laser 2000 of Dave and Kate Eccles. Dan took the lead on the third lap and was to win the race by a clear margin. The International Moth of Colin Newman made good progress on the downwind reaching course, closing in on the Laser 2000, but capsized in the gusty conditions and finished in third place. The Laser 2000 of Dave and Kate Eccles gained second place, having been passed only by the Blaze. It was wonderful to see the six FDs vying for position and chasing after the slower boats. The leading flying Dutchman was that of Peter Doran and Richard Phillips who finished in fifth place after the Blaze of Ken Hull. Results 1st Dan Partington, Blaze, Bala |
